Al Sharpton‘s National Action Network is threatening something of a hunger strike over the delay of AG nominee Loretta Lynch‘s confirmation to attorney general and they are calling it “Confirm Loretta Lynch Fast.”
According to his news release “Reverend Al Sharpton and women civil rights leaders” will begin fasting each day Lynch doesn’t get a confirmation vote.
Sharpton said the movement is “inspired by the examples of leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and Cesar Chavez,” and is designed to call attention to the needs of people like “the family of Walter Scott” and “those who face new legal challenges that threaten their right to vote.”
Outrage! Judge hammers white victims of armed home invasion for racism, lets criminal go free.
“These outstanding women leaders are taking an exemplary moral stand that should shake the conscience of the nation as to how unfairly this qualified woman is being treated by Senate leadership,” the statement read. “As long as the Senate refuses to take fifteen minutes to confirm someone for Attorney General that they have already confirmed twice for U.S. Attorney, NAN and our allies will do everything in our power to draw attention to this completely unfair and unnecessary delay to vote to confirm Loretta Lynch.”
In a twist on the traditional hunger strike Sharpton and Co. will have protesters fast for one day and then switch with another protester and so on.
Meanwhile, the Twitterverse had some fun with the news.
