Talk about picking the wrong place to take a nap.
An Alaska Airlines employee found himself in a tight jam when he fell asleep in the cargo hold of a Seattle flight bound for Los Angeles.
Passengers and crew heard the man yelling for help and banging on the cargo bay ceiling, causing the flight to turn around and head back to Seattle for an emergency landing.
“At some point, the marshal kind of made himself known and started banging back and he yelled really loud and said, ‘We’re getting ready to land, hold on to something,’” passenger Troi Ge told NBC News.
Upon landing, the man, an employee of Menzies Aviation, walked out the cargo hold and donned a high visibility jacket while calmly talking to airport staff.

“He told first responders who spoke with him that he boarded the cargo hold and was taking a nap prior to the aircraft taking off,” Alaska Airlines spokeswoman Bobbie Egan said. “Immediately after takeoff, the pilot of Alaska Airlines Flight 448, bound for Los Angeles, reported hearing banging from beneath the aircraft.”
Fortunately for the employee, the terrifying flight was short-lived.
“The aircraft was in the air for 14 minutes,” Alaska Airlines wrote on its blog. “After landing, a ramp agent was found inside the front cargo hold, which is pressurized and temperature controlled. The ramp agent appeared OK, and was transported to the hospital as a precaution.”
