‘I’m embarrassed for you’: Chuck Todd goes into ‘tingles’ territory over Hillary’s ‘Scooby Doo’ trip

In a sign of just how vapid Coverage 2016 is going to get, NBC’s Chuck Todd was bursting with schoolgirl enthusiasm when he broke the word to his clueless watchers that newly announced Democrat presidential contender Hillary Clinton is kicking off her campaign with that a road trip to Iowa.

And doing it in a van named “Scooby,” after a kids’ cartoon mystery series that debuted in 1969.

To Todd, this was all just stunningly novel. Or at least he would have us think so.

Todd hasn’t exactly covered himself with glory since taking over the “Meet the Press” seat held for so long by Tim Russert before his death in 2008, but this was an embarrassment even by his standards.

And it didn’t take long for Twittter users to start letting him know it.

Leave aside the studied cynicism of an alleged journalist praising something because it “looks spontaneous.” It’s one step above calling someone a good liar. (Even worse, it was fawning on a par with Chris Matthews famous “tingles” up his leg during a Barack Obama speech, or, as one Twitter user put it, “I’m embarrassed for you.”)

Todd’s just talking nonsense.

“Spontaneous?” Hillary Clinton has been the first lady — a “co-president” for everyone old enough to remember the 1990s and the “two-for-the-price-of-one” days when her husband was running for president in 1992.

She also ran for president in her own right in 2008 — a reminder for anyone with the mental capacity of, say, Chuck Todd.

A presidential candidate going to Iowa is about as predictable as the endings to those “Scooby Doo” mysteries that van full of kids always solved. The culprit was always the first person they met, he always had a mask on that pulled off, and he always, always said “I would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids.”

But this is Chuck Todd, the guy who thought Hillary’s deleting tens of thousands of emails was a “tactic” that he could understand to avoid congressional oversight. (Normal people would at least entertain the idea that it was destruction of evidence and a federal crime, but Chuck Todd’s not normal.)

Don’t be. Be embarrassed for what Todd and his ilk have done to the entire profession.

And be mortified at what they’re going to do until November 2016.

It’s only Day 1.
