Displaying a level of class retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid couldn’t purchase with all the wealth he’s accumulated after 32 years in Washington D.C., Mitt Romney said he was “glad” to see Reid go.
“I think he was effective in his party, but terribly ineffective in pursuing an agenda that’s right for America,” the 2012 GOP presidential nominee said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”
“I’m glad he’s retiring, and I wish him well in his retirement,” he told host Chris Wallace. “But I’m glad he’s out of the Senate soon.”
With rumors continuing to swirl over why Reid decided to retire after turning up battered and bruised from what he claimed to be an accident while exercising, the Nevada senator proudly admitted recently that he lied about Romney not paying taxes during the 2012 presidential election to help President Obama win.
In an interview last month with CNN, the Democratic lawmaker was asked if he had any regrets about the false charge, which critics branded “McCarthyite.”
“Well, they can call it whatever they want,” a smug Reid told host Dana Bash. “Romney didn’t win, did he?”
(Reid cowardly made the false allegation from the Senate floor, which means he was protected from any lawsuits over the slander.)
When Wallace asked Romney about the incident, he said Reid “surely went over the line.”
“But [I’m] disappointed in Harry Reid,” he said. “That is really not appropriate for someone in his position to make unsubstantiated claims, and of course they are entirely wrong.
“I wish we could somehow go back and pay no taxes, but the truth is I paid a lot of taxes, released tax returns so people can see that. Harry, I guess, isn’t big enough to admit it.”
There’s a reason Rush Limbaugh dubbed him “Dingy Harry.”
