Another day, another Hillary Clinton scandal.
The State Department’s inspector general will review a program that allowed Huma Abedin to work part-time as then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s while also working for a consulting firm with political ties, Fox News reported.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, told Fox News on Friday that the program even has a special name for Abedin’s role: Special Government Employee.
Inspector General Steve Linick “intends to examine the Department’s SGE program to determine if it conforms to applicable legal and policy requirements, including whether or not the program, as implemented, includes safeguards against conflicts of interest,” according to a letter Linick sent to Grassley.
Linick will also review State Department email practices in the wake of revelations that Clinton used a private email server while serving as secretary of state.
“This program is meant to be used in a limited way to give the government special expertise it can’t get otherwise,” Grassley said in a statement, according to Fox News. “An inspector general review is necessary. Available information suggests that in at least one case, the State Department gave the special status for employee convenience, not public benefit.”
Abedin is the wife of former Democratic U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, who resigned in disgrace after a sexting scandal.
