Church stirs anger inviting Planned Parenthood to rally support for new facility

A church is the last place most would expect to find a boisterous rally backing the pro-abortion machine known as Planned Parenthood – yet that’s exactly what took place in Louisiana last month.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast organized the “Stand with Women,” rally that was hosted by the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans, to garner support for a local “health center” currently under construction.

According to Fox 8 Live, the state health department rejected Planned Parenthood’s application to perform abortions at the new facility, but that decision is being appealed.

The church’s decision to host the event sparked outrage on Facebook.

“Sad. This “church” needs lots of prayers!” read one comment.

“This is what happens when we allow our politics and ideologies to form our faith and not the other way around,” another Facebook user wrote.

One protested, “They stand with a group that tears babies apart limb by limb! This is sad that people that profess to be Christian can support killing babies!!!”

Rev. Fred J. Powell, the church pastor is no stranger to Planned Parenthood, and let the group present a “minute for mission” to the congregation in 2014.

His introduction to the group can still be found on the church’s website and reads in part:

Today, We welcome our soon to be neighbors, Planned Parenthood of New Orleans. They will present a minute for mission this morning. Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast is building a new health center on South Claiborne. Planned Parenthood is a trusted quality health care provider which has been operating a health center on Magazine Street for thirty years. The new health center is scheduled to open in 2015 and will provide well women exams, testing for STIs and HIV, cancer screenings and other related reproductive health services…

To gear up for last month’s rally, another statement was added on the church website that explained lobbying local government for more services provided through Planned Parenthood:

Recently First Presbyterian opened our doors to an impromptu Planned Parenthood rally that was enthusiastically attended by more than 200 supporters, including Councilwomen Latoya Cantrell and Susan Guidry, both of whom are passionately and consistently concerned about the state of health care in our city. We are looking forward to further events and lobbying our government in Baton Rouge for more funding for mental and physical health services in Louisiana.

First Presbyterian is committed to caring for the bodies as well as the souls of our community and supports the work that Planned Parenthood is doing in our neighborhood to build a heath care center.

City Council member, LaToya Cantrell is a big proponent of the new Planned Parenthood facility and spoke at the rally.

“It feels great to be here this afternoon knowing that the pews are filled with majority women who are standing up for the rights we all deserve,” Cantrell told the audience.

Guest speaker, Rev. Melanie Morel-Ensminger addressed the crowd and preached, “Reproductive justice means every single person has the right to the full spectrum of health care.”

Every single person?

There are a whole lot of Christians who would call her statement either completely deceptive or delusional.
