Fox News’ Megyn Kelly was on fire Wednesday, defending Republican presidential contender Rand Paul against allegations of sexism declaring that female reporters don’t need to be protected by their male counterparts.
“These male commentators can butt out. We can give as good as we get…” she said on “The Kelly File.”
Kelly was referring to Paul’s string of interviews where he admittedly lost his temper, sometimes with female reporters, which the mainstream media is quick to point out.
Paul’s heated interviews on the first day after officially announcing he’d be making a run for the 2016 Republican presidential nominee made the rounds on social media, feeding the Democrat storyline that he treats women poorly.
“To me, it’s ironic that these people trying to step in and protect these female interviewers are themselves being sexist,” Kelly told Paul. “While they’re suggesting that you were being sexist because you didn’t kowtow and you weren’t polite enough to a female interviewer.”
Paul’s latest run-in came Wednesday morning when he repeatedly interrupted NBC “Today” host Savannah Guthrie as she framed a question about his perceived flip flops on foreign policy.
Kelly scolded Paul for being “thinned skinned” and warned him that if he intends to see his campaign through, he’d better get used to being grilled by the media. But she really admonished those who tried to come to the female interviewers “rescue.”
“Chuck Todd came out and said you had to be careful because you attacked two prominent female interviewers. The Guardian said you were condescending to female reporters,” Kelly told Paul.
“I, as a female reporter, would say to Chuck Todd and The Guardian, we don’t need your help. Savannah Guthrie doesn’t need your help. Kelly Evans doesn’t need your help, and you are entitled to push back on the interviewer just as much as you would if you are a man.”
