To hell with security! States ignore post-9/11 laws, issue look-alike drivers licenses to illegals

Congress passed the REAL ID Act following the terrorist attacks of 9/11, but some states a locales are thumbing their noses at the law and issuing look-alike drivers licenses to illegal aliens.

Fox News’ William La Jeunesse reported Tuesday that some municipalities are issuing ID cards that are indistinguishable from actual drivers licenses.

“After 9/11 Congress passed the REAL ID Act, which said if states issue IDs for illegal immigrants they have to look different — and the key words are ‘by design or color’ — from an actual drivers license,” he said. “That’s because an ID isn’t secure enough to board an airplane.”

He showed licenses and IDs from Colorado and Washington, D.C., next to official drivers licenses and they looked nearly identical.

“If you could issue a letter grade to the way states are handling this, it would be an ‘F’,” Andrew Meehan of the Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License told Fox News.

Not surprisingly, the American Civil Liberties Union is more concerned with offending illegal aliens then they are with national security.

“What we object to is states that gratuitously would try to do much more than necessary for the sole purpose of stigmatizing individuals,” ACLU lawyer Jon Blazer told Fox News.

“On the other hand, some states have taken a better approach in this regard, and have put the minimal requirements that they’re obliged to put under federal law.”

Meehan said six states issue ID cards that are virtually indistinguishable from official driver’s licenses. Among them California, Washington D.C. and Colorado.

Meehan said California, who has issued more than half a million IDs to illegals since January they are accepting foreign documents as proof of identification.

In 2011 Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte used phony foreign documents to obtain a Utah driver privilege card with the fake name of Marcelo Marquez to travel throughout the United States.

Monroy-Bracamonte got the ID despite the fact that he was deported twice for violent crimes and drug dealing, according to Fox News.

In 2014 he continued his violent ways by killing two California deputies after a car chase.

Utah has now changed its law to require fingerprints and changed the look of its driver privilege cards to make them easily distinguishable from state drivers licenses.

Hopefully it won’t take more murders for other states to follow the letter of the law.
