Talk about un-friending.
With many people now meeting their spouses on social media it makes sense that one judge has ruled a woman can use Facebook to get a divorce.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper granted permission to Ellanora Baidoo to serve divorce papers in the unusual manner because she has no address for her husband other than an apartment he stopped occupying in 2011, the New York Daily News reported.
Baidoo claimed that she married Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku in a civil ceremony in 2009 but Blood-Dzraku didn’t make good on his promise to also have a traditional Ghanaian wedding.
Because of this, Baidoo’s lawyer claimed, the two never consummated the marriage and never even lived together.
According to the ruling, the couple only kept in touch on Facebook and phone conversations.
“I think it’s new law, and it’s necessary,” Andrew Spinnell, Baidoo’s lawyer, told the Daily News..
Spinnell said they went as far as to hire a private detective to find Blood-Dzraku to no avail.
The judge ordered the messages be delivered to Blood-Dzraku’s Facebook page once a week for three weeks.
The first message has already been delivered but no reply has been received..
