“Mindy Project” star Mindy Kaling is furious at her brother for his new book, where he reveals he posed as a black man to get into medical school thanks to affirmative action.
Vijay Chokal-Ingam said his sister, real name Vera Mindy Chokalingam, “strongly disapproves” of the book in which he stated he was only accepted to medical school because he faked his race.
“She actually said, ‘This book will bring shame on our family,’” he said.
And she isn’t the only one to object.
“The rest of my family does not agree with the book. Still, they respect my right to make my own decisions with my career,” Chokal-Ingam said.
Chokal-Ingam wrote on his blog “Almost Black,” which is the same as the name of his upcoming book, that with his GPA at a barely respectable 3.1 and a Medical College Admission Test score of 31 (out of a possible 45), he would have a better chance to get into medical school if he pretended to be black.
‘”I was determined to become a doctor and I knew that admission standards for certain minorities under affirmative action were, let’s say… less stringent?” he wrote.
“I got into medical school because I said I was black,” he added. “The funny thing is, I’m not.”
Recently, however, he has become a vocal opponent of affirmative action, declaring it to be a racist practice.
“#affirmativeaction is DISCRIMINATION; it’s a lie to call it else. I got into medical school with a 3.1 GPA as black,” he wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet he called it “state sponsored racism.”
Predictably, the backlash from the Twitterverse was fierce.
Dude has finally reached the point where being Mindy Kaling's brother isn't enough & now he wants some attention. Hope he chokes on it.

Mindy Kaling's brother is a perfect example of why I will never use or support the term "people of color." We ain't in this together.

And thank you Mindy Kaling's brother, for the onslaught of hot takes we'll have to endure from clueless white people.

'Bobby' Jindal, Dinesh D'Souza, and Mindy Kaling's brother. Brown people who better hide when the revolution comes.

Mindy Kaling's brother would rather pretend to be black to get into med school, than actively work with black people against discrimination.
