Army briefing lectures troops on ‘white privilege’; reaction is fast and furious!

An Army Equal Opportunity “diversity” session last week quickly devolved into a lecture on “white privilege” — and the backlash was brutal.

Approximately 400 soldiers at the 67th Signal Battalion in Fort Gordon, Ga. were forced to endure Thursday’s presentation, which commanded attention after a photograph of one of the PowerPoint presentation slides was posted on Facebook.

Under the title, “the luxury of obliviousness,” the slide states, “[R]ace privilege gives whites little reason to pay a lot of attention to African Americans or to how white privilege affects them.”

The slide includes a quote: “To be white in American [sic] means not having to think about it.”

According to The Daily Caller:

The quote appears to be from James Baldwin, as referenced in sociologist Allan G. Johnson’s book, “Privilege, Power, and Difference.” The popular book teaches readers how to examine the implications of their privilege.

Reaction to the Facebook post was fast and furious — and the race of those posting comments didn’t matter one whit. Here’s a notable example:

Joshua Robinson Army: “who the F**k wrote this s**t.. I’m appalled and I’m black. this is what perpetuates racism, when you put s**t like this up on a board and tell all the white people in the room that they’re wrong for being white. Whats the difference between this and any other form of racially motivated discrimination?”

According to Army Capt. Lindsay Roman, “white privilege” was not supposed to be a part of the program.

“The unit (Equal Opportunity) instructor deviated from the authorized topic and content which was provided,” Roman told USA Today. “To prevent further instances, all unit instructors will receive additional training on the importance of following Army EO training requirements.”

Fury over the incident spread to Twitter. Here are a few examples:

Here’s an idea: Let’s keep the sociological mumbo jumbo out of the armed services and let them do what they do best — protect American freedom. The true “white privilege” in America’s military doesn’t refer to skin color — it’s the color of the stones marking their final resting place.
