The Ripple Effect choir, some of whose members are gay, said it was moved to send a message of love, according to local CBS affiliate WSBT Channel 22 News.

The group sang outside Memories Pizza for about an hour Friday and was largely praised for its efforts.

The Memories Pizza brouhaha began when the restaurant’s owner told a local TV news crew that he approved of Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, saying that although everyone was welcome in his Walkerton establishment, he wouldn’t cater a gay wedding.

That comment set off a firestorm of threats against the restaurant and its owners, forcing the family to close the pizzeria’s doors until the controversy blows over.

“There are a lot of hurt people” the choir’s director, Sherry Klinedinst, who grew up in Walkerton, told WSBT. “There are a lot of angry people. I’m really hoping we can just find some common ground.”
