Montel slams Obama: ‘How dare we make a deal’ when Iran still has Americans, including a US Marine

Think what you will of TV personality Montel Williams, but there’s no denying he has been a passionate advocate for U.S. military personnel.

Fresh off a battle to free U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi from a Mexican jail, Williams blasted the Obama administration for reaching a framework agreement with Iran on its nuclear program even while the Middle Eastern country continues to imprison American citizens, including a U.S. Marine.

Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that the U.S. government is continuing to talk to Iran officials about releasing the three Americans, Fox News reported.

But Williams was not impressed.

In an appearance on Fox News’ “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren,” he took President Obama to task for saying the proposed deal with Iran satisfies the United States’ “core objectives.”

“Would not getting an American soldier back from the grips of a terrorist country that is torturing him be one of our objectives? Williams asked. “So I don’t understand what that meant.”

Williams called on the White House to be more forthcoming, as farfetched as that may be.

“Don’t call me. Tell the American public what you’re doing,” Williams said. “Since you and I started talking about this, there have been 18 million impressions of people in America looking at the story. That means America wants to know: How dare we make a deal and even contemplate signing one in a month without bringing our citizens home? I don’t get it.”

The three American prisoners are former Marine Amir Hekmati, an Iranian-American who held dual citizenship; Pastor Saeed Abedini and former FBI agent Bob Levinson.

Williams said Hekmati qualifies as a prisoner of war because of his service in the Iraq war, adding earlier this week that the vet is in a dire situation. He’s been whipped by his captors and forced to take addictive drugs that lead to torturous withdrawal symptoms, according to Fox News.

“This man doesn’t even have access to a counselor,” Williams said. “He hasn’t seen a counselor, he has no Red Cross access. Please just give this soldier the dignity of life! We give it to these guys down in Gitmo.”
