Fox News host Greta Van Susteren has a reputation as a straight-shooter. And one recent blog posting shows why.
On her blog, Gretawire, an eclectic mix of stories and videos, a post appeared Friday about Van Susteren’s Fox News colleague Chris Wallace, who got himself into a jam on “The Mike Gallagher Show” this week while joking with the host about weight.
During casual banter, Gallagher — Wallace’s personal friend — raised the issue of fat-shaming, specifically mentioning former American Idol star, mega-hit singer Kelly Clarkson.
The Gretawire post called for Wallace to apologize for jumping on Gallagher’s fat-shaming bandwagon, saying:
Below is excerpted from Mediaite.com:
“Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson?” Gallagher asked Wallace. “Holy cow, did she blow up.”
At first, it seemed that [Chris] Wallace was going to avoid joining in on this bizarre line of questioning, saying he thinks Clarkson has “got a lovely voice.” But then, he let this comment slip: “She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while.”
This ‘guy snickering’ about her weight is obnoxious. He should apologize.
UPDATE 4/5: Wallace issued an apology statement over the weekend. He said, “I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment. … I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.”
