Bibi responds to latest threat from Iran with a stinging swipe at Obama

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a stinging rebuke to President Obama’s ongoing efforts to strike a deal with Iran, saying it would be “unconscionable” to give the mullahs in Tehran a path to a nuclear weapon.

Netanyahu was responding Wednesday to the latest threat from the Persian Gulf country.

“Yesterday an Iranian general brazenly declared and I quote: ‘Israel’s destruction is non-negotiable’, but evidently giving Iran’s murderous regime a clear path to the bomb is negotiable,” Bibi said in a televised statement.

“This is unconscionable.”

Obama recently described his awkward interaction with Netanyahu as a “businesslike relationship,” but that characterization may be in store for a further downgrade after Wednesday’s backhanded comment.

Netanyahu appealed to world leaders Wednesday to insist on a better deal with Iran.

“Now is the time for the international community to insist on a better deal,” the prime minister said. “A better deal would significantly roll back Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. A better deal would link the eventual lifting of the restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program to a change in Iran’s behavior.”

As for what is nonnegotiable, Netanyahu pointed to Iran’s continued threats to wipe out his country.

“Iran must stop its aggression in the region, stop its terrorism throughout the world and stop its threats to annihilate Israel,” he said.

“That should be non-negotiable and that’s the deal that the world powers must insist upon.”
