Stage play ‘Ferguson’ based entirely on grand jury testimony exposes what MSM buried

A controversial filmmaker wants to spread the truth about important details surrounding the shooting death of Michael Brown by former police officer Darren Wilson last August – by reenacting the day’s events in a stage play based entirely on grand jury testimony.

“Everyone I show the script to is shocked by the detail, shocked by things they didn’t know, and that’s what being a journalist and being a writer is all about,” filmmaker Phelim McAleer said on “The Church Boys Q & A interview series.”

McAleer said he made interesting discoveries while scouring 5,000 pages of witness testimony and wants to convey “just how that day unfolded.”

“I want to bring the truth to people. I want to do it in dramatic way – in a way to get their interest and get them talking,” McAleer said.

He said the play, titled “Ferguson,” is “verbatim based on the testimony from the Ferguson grand jury.”

“I mean, not very many people know that Darren Wilson … a few years before had approached his training officer and said, ‘You know, I feel I don’t know enough about the African American community. How can I get in there and find out more and be a better police officer for those people?’”

McAleer said according to testimony, Wilson had taken his own initiative – before the shooting – to further help the community that he served. Not a lot of people know that, he told Church Boys.

According to McAleer, “plain-spoken” Wilson came across to the public as uncaring because his intense focus and years of police training kept his reactions measured.

But McAleer said the truth is in the testimony, which audiences can see acted out verbatim from April 26 through April 29 at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in Los Angeles.

He also hopes to bring the play to Ferguson, Mo., and St. Louis, where he believes “the people of Ferguson deserve the truth.”
