Mom learns her kids were ‘rude, obnoxious’ at movies; teaches them unforgettable lesson

An Alabama mom is earning high praise from thousands of social media users for a refreshing method of punishment she doled out to her two misbehaving teenage daughters.

Kyesha Smith Wood was not at all happy when she found out her daughter and stepdaughter were being “rude and obnoxious” in a movie theater Friday.

Their behavior was so disruptive it prompted a verbal scolding from a stranger in attendance.

“It started out with giggling, talking too loud, and kicking my seat,” Rebecca Boyd told Yahoo Parenting.

Boyd and her 12-year-old daughter, Ashley, were on a rare night out, and said the experience was ruined by the obnoxious-acting teens.

“At one point I turned around and told them that we paid for the movie just like they did,” Boyd said.

“I told them they needed to realize that their behavior affects others and they never know what other people around them are going through.

“For instance, my husband was just laid off from his job and this would be the last movie I could take my daughter to for a while, and they had ruined that,” she said.

Boyd’s frustration that night struck a chord with Kyesha’s son who was also at the theater. He promptly told his mom about what had happened – and things got really interesting.

Kyesha posted a request on a local community Facebook page Saturday to find the woman who was disrespected.

“This is a long shot…” Kyesha wrote.

“…I dropped my teenage daughter, step daughter and son off at the movie. My son later told me, much to my humiliation and embarrassment, that my girls were rude and obnoxious…”

“…If you are this woman please message me. I can assure you that these girls are being strongly dealt with and appropriately punished. …They owe you an apology,” she wrote.

Kyesha also said she wanted to use her daughters’ allowances to reimburse the woman.

Kyesha’s announcement immediately drew resounding accolades from social media users who respected her responsible parenting and generously shared her post. As it turned out, finding Boyd wasn’t such a long shot after all.

The two women eventually messaged each other and hit if off immediately, according to Yahoo News.

“I thanked her for correcting my girls in my absence and letting them know that they were wrong,” Kyesha said.

Boyd was relieved there were no hard feelings.

“I was very touched that Kyesha was not offended that I approached her girls,” Boyd said.

“Her kind letter brought tears to my eyes.”
