Apparently upset that “blocs” of Asians are taking over blocks of public housing in her district, a New York City councilwoman last week suggested “culture” be included when assigning people to public housing.
“There could be some benefit to housing people by culture,” Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo told the New York Post. “I think it needs to be discussed.”
If Cumbo weren’t a black woman Democrat from New York City in 2015 – if she were, say, a white male Democrat from Alabama in 1965 – everyone would know exactly what she was talking about when she says “culture.”
She means language, ethnic origin and skin color. She means “race,” in a word. And by speaking it out loud she’s giving away again how liberal fixation with skin color affects everything they do.
Cumbo raised the issue Thursday during a city council meeting about the city’s Housing Authority, according to the New York Daily News.
She said two public housing projects in her district “have welcomed a sizable increase from the Asian population within a small window of time.”
It doesn’t sound like they were very welcome though.

“We want to understand, what the tenants want to understand, is how is it … that people from all ethnicities could be moving into the district, but that’s not actually the case,” she said. “They are having challenges in terms of understanding how one particular ethnic group, that speaks the same language across the board … has had the opportunity to move into a development in large numbers.”
In other words, Cumbo’s predominantly black constituents saw all those Asians moving in and thought, “there goes the neighborhood.”
Naturally, Cumbo’s been taking heat from New York’s Asian politicians, who are shocked – shocked! – that a Democrat could talk that way.
“This is New York City, after all, and it is our responsibility as council members to do everything in our power to bring our constituents together,” Councilwoman Margaret Chin said, according to the New York Observer.
But really, Cumbo was just taking liberal Democrat thinking a logical step forward. The progressive obsession with skin color — whether it’s separate dorms for blacks on college campuses, the “black lives matter” mob, the “black brunch” rabble, or the Congressional Black Caucus — has spent decades rotting at the core of liberal politics – and the beliefs of liberal Democrats.
It’s how we got Barack Obama in the White House.
