With President Obama forging headlong into a deal with Iran over its nuclear ambitions, critics be damned, the president’sĀ former intelligence chief said the White House is pursuing a “policy of willful ignorance.”
Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn,Ā Obama’s former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, appeared on “Fox News Sunday,” and was asked by host Chris Wallace if the president’s “patchwork of alliances” in the Middle East can work.
“So let me just start by saying as an intelligence officer, intelligence has to be part of the calculus of every strategic level of decision,” Flynn said.
“And right now, I donāt — my sense of where the policy is at is sort of — and I hate to say it like this, but itās almost a policy of willful ignorance,” he continued. “And to me, we have some major problems that we are dealing with and here we are talking to Iran about a nuclear deal with this almost complete breakdown of order in the Middle East.”
Flynn pointed out that Iran “is also a country with ballistic missiles, cyber capabilities, they are also still a state-sponsor of terrorism.”
“And here we are dealing with them as though weāre going to give them a carte blanche ā I know it will be some number of years to have a nuclear capability,” he said. “Give me a break!”

Adding to the skepticism of Obama’s almost desperate attempt to reach a deal with Iran,Ā a former media aide for Iranian President Hassan Rouhan just defected in Switzerland and accused the administration of acting in Iranās interests, not on behalf of Western powers.
And if that weren’t bad enough, Obama’s former ambassador to Iraq, James Jeffrey, ripped the president over his Middle East policy.
āWe’re in a goddamn free fall here,ā Jeffrey told Politico last week.
