A Tennessee mom wasn’t willing to stay quiet when her child was threatened with suspension for cutting his hair to honor his soldier-stepbrother.
The school has come under fire for crushing the young boy’s spirit.
Adam Stinnett showed up for school on March 9 at Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School in McMinnville, Tenn. with his new “high and tight” haircut he got to look like his stepbrother Spc. Justin Bloodworth but was written up by the principal citing school policy.
The policy bans “mohawk haircuts or other extreme cuts.”
Defiantly his mother, Amy Stinnett, sent him back to school the next day with the haircut unchanged.
His mother received an email from the school principal who requested a face to face meeting.

“I have the utmost respect for the military and its members,” the principal wrote. “However we are not a military school and the boy’s haircut is against our rules.’”
At the meeting the principal informed Stinnett that her son’s hair would have to be cut before he would be allowed to return to school.
She had no choice but to comply.
“I did shave his head,” Stinnett told USA Today. ”With no hair, he looks sick all the time.”
“They crushed my son’s dreams,” she added. “They made him feel upset. They broke his heart. He didn’t deserve that.”
The backlash forced the school to take down their Facebook page and increase security.
“It’s been portrayed that we are anti-military, anti-patriot, and we are not,” Bobby Cox, the district’s director of schools told Army Times. “I’m just sorry that’s been the way it’s been portrayed.”
Interestingly the school is named for Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class David Robert “Bobby” Ray who was killed in action while administering medical aid to injured servicemen in Vietnam in 1969. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor.
The school’s gym is named for Spc. Jeremy L. Brown who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.
