The CFO of Kroger supermarkets reaffirmed Wednesday that the retail chain will not be submitting to the wishes of the gun-grabbing group known as Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
“If the local gun laws are to allow open carry, we’ll certainly allow customers to do that based on what the local laws are,” Kroger CFO Michael Schlotman said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
Show host, Andrew Ross Sorkin was inquiring about a campaign the anti-gun group launched against Kroger in August 2014.
Concerned about gun carrying laws being implemented throughout the nation, Moms Demand Action had been successfully bullying retail giants into implementing anti-gun policies within their stores.
When they aimed their concerted movement at Kroger, they received an unexpected reaction.
Mall of America gun ban creates a ‘kill zone’ of ‘unarmed sheep’
Schlotman said they didn’t capitulate to the group then, and they don’t plan to now.
“We don’t believe it’s up to us to legislate what the local gun control laws should be. It’s up to the local legislators to decide to do that.
So we follow local laws [and] we ask our customers to be respectful to the other people they are shopping with. And we really haven’t had any issues inside of our stores as a result of that.
Second-amendment advocates are happy to see Kroger will be taking the refreshingly simple – and logical – approach by following the law of the land and trusting the sound judgement of its citizens.
But Moms Demand Action doesn’t look like it will let up anytime soon, and the debate over whether the stores should allow guns on the premises rages on.
