After lawyering up and having months to noodle on it, thanks to the Obama administration, which has dragged its feet on expediting his case, Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl appears to have come up with a defense for why he deserted his post and abandoned his brothers in arms.
And it’s a doozy.
According to CNN, Bergdahl shipped all his belongings home and walked away from his unit intent on walking to the nearest U.S. military post to report wrongdoing in his unit.
An unnamed senior defense official told CNN that Bergdahl has issues with “order and discipline” in his unit and did not trust his own commanders to make them aware of it.

Bergdahl was planning to report what he believed to be problems with “order and discipline” in his unit, a senior defense official tells CNN

All this time he has been seen as a deserter, when in reality he’s just a misunderstood whistleblower — surely there’s some federal provision to protect whistleblowers, right?
Too bad Bergdahl sent his computer home or he could have emailed his concerns to the appropriate individuals. And those concerns must have been staggering to risk wandering around the mountains of Afghanistan — mountains teeming with enemy combatants eager to kill Americans.
Social media users were skeptical when the news of Bergdahl’s excuse began to filter out. Some even pointed to the Obama administration as being behind the “leak.”

Why is a “senior defense official” undermining Bergdahl legal process, repeating defense attorney talking points? https://t.co/2e4NEWh97Y
