Cops answer distress call from 18-wheeler; what they found was jaw-dropping

Police see a lot of shocking things but none quite as surprising as what some rural Louisiana cops came upon while responding to a call from a stranded 18-wheeler.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies received a call around 7 a.m. Tuesday to help the distressed tractor trailer on the side of the highway, but when they arrived they found help was already there in the form of two elephants.

“When deputies arrived on scene, they were astounded to find two elephants keeping the eighteen wheeler from overturning,” a news release from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office said. “Three elephants on the truck were being transported from New Orleans to Dallas, Texas area.”

According to the release the elephants were en route to a circus in Dallas from their original location in Florida.

“The truck became stuck after the driver pulled off the edge of the soft shoulder.,” the release said. “Recent rains caused the ground off of the shoulder to be soft.”

A wrecker was called to assist to remove the tractor.

There were no injuries to man nor beast and no citations were issued.

But it was a call to remember.
