Rand Paul makes a case for why he’s a better nominee than Ted Cruz

Rand Paul has his gloves on and is ready to fight his Republican rivals, starting with Ted Cruz.

The Kentucky senator appeared on Fox News’ “The Kelly File” Monday to lay the groundwork for his expected announcement that he will be running for president.

Paul mentioned that he was happy to see his supporters at Cruz’s announcement Monday at Liberty University where they wore “I Stand With Rand” red T-shirts.

“We were glad to see them there and organized and excited about the possibility of me running,” he told host Megyn Kelly.

Paul pointed out that he and Cruz share many similarities that should appeal to the conservative base.

“We kind of come from the same wing of the party,” Paul said. “If you look at our voting records, you’ll find that we’re very, very similar.”

But he was quick to stress the main difference between them is what Paul perceives as his ability to grow the party larger by going to places with liberal audiences like Ferguson, Mo., the University of California, Berkley, Howard University and The Urban League.

Kelly asked Paul how he could become president when his father never could.

“I think if you see my polling, the polling that’s out there so far, nobody is doing better against Hillary Clinton than myself,” Paul said. .

He said that whoever wins the GOP nomination will have to go hard after the Clintons’ corruption and the terror attack in Benghazi and call Clinton out on her record of ostensibly supporting women’s rights when her family’s foundation accepted money from countries that have imprisoned women for being raped.

“We won’t win unless we do aggressively combat her and make sure that she has to explain her record as well,” Paul said.

Paul’s “mystery” announcement is scheduled for April 7, after which he is scheduled to tour Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Iowa and Nevada.

Doesn’t seem like much of a mystery.
