Stranger with concealed carry permit stops possible Philly barbershop bloodbath

What began as a deranged barber shop customer opening fire on staff and patrons alike ended in a modern-day version of “shootout at the OK Corral,” when a passerby, who happened to be a concealed carry holder, stepped in and saved the day.

It all went down in West Philadelphia Sunday afternoon at the Falah Barber Shop, when a customer, described only as a 40-year-old man, got into an altercation with another person inside the shop, according to local NBC affiliate News 10.

“They were arguing,” Yusaf Mack, 16, told the station. “They were taking it too far and one of the barbers said, ‘chill out.'”

When the argument intensified, the 40-year-old man drew a handgun and started spraying bullets.

“I heard gunshots so I ducked and I ran,” Mack said.

A concealed carrying passerby heard the commotion, ran inside the shop and drew his own weapon. He hit the 40-year-old in the chest, putting an end to the argument and what could have been a bloodbath — there were children inside the shop at the time of the disturbance.

The 40-year-old died of his wounds. Fortunately, no one else was hurt.

News 10 reported:

The man who killed the gunman later surrendered to police at the 16th District Headquarters. Investigators say at this point it appears the shooting was in self-defense and the man likely will not face any charges. They continue to investigate however.

“The person who responded was a legal gun permit carrier,” Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Llewellyn told News 10. “He responded and I guess he saved a lot of people in there.”
