Disabled vet stands his ground protecting pregnant woman; 2 bums wish he hadn’t

A disabled Army veteran who shot two men while defending a pregnant woman from attack was fully justified under Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” and won’t be charged in the shootings.

“In my opinion, I think he did the right thing,” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said. “You don’t have an obligation to allow yourself to be attacked.”

Veteran Joshua Anderson, 29, was fishing Tuesday night in Martin County, Fla., when he spotted two homeless men fighting and saw one of the men push the other’s pregnant girlfriend, according to WPTV.

Witnesses told police Anderson approached the men to break up the fight and protected the pregnant woman when the two men turned and came after him. He warned the men he had a gun but the assailants kept coming and one shoved him.

“It was a very big altercation. I’m calling for myself because this was not good,” Anderson said on a 911 call he placed himself. ”The other two men were well bigger than me, and they were hitting a pregnant woman. I tried to stop them and they turned to try to come on me.”

The Martin County Sheriff’s office agreed and decided the Florida’s “stand your ground” law applied to this case as Anderson acted in self-defense.

“Due to his disability, he would not be able to fend off an attack from both males, especially considering that one was somewhat larger than he was,” Snyder said.
