As U.S. special operations forces scrambled Saturday to evacuate the Al Anad air base in southern Yemen after al-Qaida fighters seized the nearby city of al-Houta, their commander in chief enjoyed an afternoon of leisure.
Yes, this is the same Middle Eastern country that President Obama touted as a “success” in the war on terror just six months ago.

Nevertheless, Obama spent part of the day Saturday watching the Princeton women’s basketball team in the NCAA tournament — his niece plays for the Tigers.
And since the weather was being cooperative for March, the president squeezed in a round of golf, too.
From College Park, Pres Obama motorcaded to @AndrewsAirForce for a round of golf. It’s 51° and sunny. Headed to 60°.

All the while, fast-moving events on the ground in Yemen have resulted in the U.S. losing track of $500 million in military assets, which could be in al-Qaida’s hands now.
With less than two years remaining in his second term, a seemingly semi-retired Obama appears to care less and less about optics — critics may wonder if the president still remembers where the White House Situation Room is even located.
AP reporter grills State Dept. about mushy
condolences to Iran: ‘Are you sending flowers, as well?’
And while the White House pool report said Obama was “sporting … a new Fitbit-style smartwatch,” it did not mention whether he was chanting “Defense!” during the game.
As the conflicting storylines hit social media yesterday, Twitter users expressed their usual disgust with “The Leisure President,” as one user dubbed Obama. Here’s a sampling as seen on Twitter:

@markknoller @AndrewsAirForce A round of golf? Who would have guessed…. Needs to unwind after the pressures of filling his brackets.

@markknoller @AndrewsAirForce WH press corps puts no heat on Obama for his ME failures so he has no shame in goofing off as US flees Yemen.
