It looks like former Department of Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano picked up a trait from her old boss, President Obama — making inappropriate comments on a hot mic.
While a group of about two dozen students were protesting tuition hikes at the University of California, Napolitano, UC’s current president turned to a colleague, regent Chairman Bruce Varner and said, “Let’s just break. Let’s go, let’s go. We don’t have to listen to this crap.”
Making Napolitano’s comments even more egregious, she remarked earlier at the same meeting that, “They want to be sure that their voices are being heard and I want to commit to them that their voices are being heard.”
She apologized the following day for her remarks, or at least for getting caught making them.
“Yesterday after we heard from a couple of dozen speakers, things got a little active from the audience in terms of chanting and throwing stuff and whatever,” she said, The Huffington Post reported “I was caught on a mic with a word that was unfortunate, so I want to just say I apologize for that. I ask for your empathy and understanding in my comments, but also to say we have public comment to listen to comments about serious things expressed seriously.”
Students were not at all amused:
