Watch: Students shocked at their share of the national debt; ‘I’m not a taxpayer yet!’

College students, normally worried about little more than an upcoming test or whether they ordered enough beer for the next party, are shocked when confronted with the reality of the national debt — and especially their proportionate share of it.

The gang at Campus Reform hit the streets of Charleston, S.C., to interview students on the subject. After getting each person’s date of birth, they were able to estimate their lifetime share in the national debt using the GOP Senate Budget Committee calculator.

The results were sobering — and the reactions sometimes humorous.

In 2008, then-Sen. Obama accused President George W. Bush of being “unpatriotic” for adding $4.9 trillion to the national debt during his 8 years in office. But that’s nothing as compared to the $8 trillion increase under President Obama in just six years.

Then there are the unfunded liabilities — those future payment obligations that exceed the present value of funds available to pay them.

And it keeps getting worse.
