Church sign about government ‘legalizing sin’ has town in uproar

A sign on a local church about the legalization of “sin” is sparking controversy.

The sign posted on Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church in Seminole, Okla., reads “Government making sin legal does not make it right.”

According to News Channel 4 who first reported the story town residents are conflicted as to what the sign means with some believing it pertains to recent marriage equality laws.

Cringe! Obama snubs Ireland prime minister’s handshake in mortifying moment.

Last week a bill passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives that would have only members of the clergy or those licensed to perform marriage ceremonies able to issue marriage licenses. A move seen as an end-around on court decisions legalizing gay marriage.

A sign placed below it in protest (that is falling down) reads, “Jesus love all. You may not be welcome in this hateful church, but you are welcome in this community. You are important. You are loved.”

Town resident Kay Daniels agreed with the statement that government legalizing something doesn’t make it less sinful.

“It don’t make it right,” she said. “I don’t think it do.”

Others are mixed on both what the sign is saying and their feelings about it.

“I really don’t know what that pertains to,” Seminole resident Rodney told News Channel 4. “What I think they’re doing is, they’re talking about the legalization of marijuana.”

“I don’t think it’s right. No one should judge and they should really take it down,” said Seminole native Crystal Plumlee.

So far no one from the church responded to News Channel 4’s request for comment.
