Oregon rewards apathy by auto-registering lazy voters; what could go wrong?

Call it the low-motivation voter.

Democrats in Oregon are jumping for joy now that Gov. Kate Brown signed legislation that automatically registers voters who have a driver’s license. But what good is a vote from someone who couldn’t be bothered to make an effort to register?

According to Yahoo News, a ballot will be mailed to anyone who has done business with the Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division since 2013 but has not bothered to register to vote.

A great scenario if you belong to a party that feasts on uninformed votes.

“It just changes expectations for who’s responsible for making elections work,” Barry Burden, a political science professor at the University of Wisconsin said. “In every other state it’s the responsibility for the voters to make sure it happens.”

The move is projected to add 300,000 voters.

Some in the Twitterverse praised the legislation while others bashed it.
