Who just claimed their first act as president will be to use US military against Congress?

If elected president — stranger things have happened — U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham vowed to use military force to coerce Congress into increasing defense spending.

“I would literally use the military to keep them in if I had to,” Graham said, according to Vox. “We’re not leaving town until we restore these defense cuts. We are not leaving town until we restore the intel cuts.”

The South Carolina Republican was addressing previous cuts to the defense budget at an event in New Hampshire over the weekend when he made the declaration.

ALindsey Grahamnd while surely a tongue-in-cheek remark, is it any wonder conservatives are consistently disappointed by the Republican Party when looking to men like Graham to stand resolute while President Obama and the Democratic Party run roughshod over the U.S. Constitution?

Men expected to be standard bearers of perhaps the most important governing document in world history, joking about taking steps that make Obama’s overreaching executive actions look like child’s play in comparison.

It’s hard to tell if “senior sadness correspondent” Amanda Taub, as she is identified on Vox’s website, took Graham seriously when she breathlessly condemned the remark.

“What [Sen.] Lindsey Graham is proposing is to physically force members of Congress to vote how he commands,” Taub penned. “His plan violates constitutional separation of powers in just about the most extreme way imaginable, by forcing the executive branch’s will on the legislature.”

“And it is a pretty safe bet that Senate rules do not grant the president authority to have the 101st Airborne Division occupy the Capitol until Congress votes the way he wants.”

A safe bet indeed.
