Al Sharpton has a modern-day equivalent for the time-honored “the dog ate my homework” excuse. It’s called “a fire destroyed all my records” alibi, and he’s already used it — twice.
National Review reporter Jillian Kay Melchior went “On the Record” Wednesday and told Fox host Greta Van Susteren that each time Sharpton claimed his financial records had been destroyed in a suspicious fire, he just happened to be running for public office.
Now that’s one heck of a coincidence.
The first was classified as an arson/explosion when he was running for mayor in 1997.
Although the second fire, when he was a presidential candidate in 2003, was at first thought to be electrical in origin, inconsistencies have come to light recently that cast doubt on that explanation.
Because of the fires, he claimed he was unable to comply with election reporting requirements
“His story definitely has some holes in it,” she said.
