Muslim convert arrested after threatening to behead Miami rabbi — but cops let him go first!

It’s certainly newsworthy that a Miami Beach man was arrested after allegedly threatening to behead a rabbi outside his synagogue.

It’s even more newsworthy that he first yelled out “Allahu akbar!”

But what may be the most sensational aspect of the entire story is that police initially let the man go.

According to WPLG Local 10, Rabbi David Weberman told police he was approached outside the Ohev Shalom Congregation in Miami Beach by Diego Chaar, 24, who was shouting “Allahu akbar!”

The rabbi said he ignored Chaar until he allegedly began saying, “Heads will be cut off,” and “I will cut your head off.”  Fearing for his life, Weberman then called police.

Police found Chaar hiding behind a car when they responded, but after filling out an incident report they decided to release the suspect at the scene, WPLG Local 10 reported.

But Chaar, who converted to Islam three years ago while in prison, was not to be denied. He returned to the synagogue and continued yelling “Allahu akbar.” Police responded a second time and arrested him.

Chaar spoke with Local 10 News and admitted saying “Allahu akbar,” but denied making any threats.

“There’s no proof I said I was going to cut their heads off,” he said.

“This has nothing to do with them being Jewish,” Chaar told the local news station, saying he just wanted “to help them find peace within themselves.”
