7 Marines, 4 Guardsmen missing after helicopter training crash

Seven Marines and four soldiers are missing after a helicopter crash during a training exercise in Florida’s Panhandle.

The helicopter from Eglin Air Force Base was reported missing about 8:30 p.m., Eglin spokesman Andy Bourland told “Fox and Friends” Wednesday. Debris from the crash was found about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Bourland told “Fox and Friends” the search was being slowed by heavy fog in the area.

“We expect to know more as it gets light,” he said.

The Marines on board were based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., according to the AP. The soldiers were National Guardsman based in Hammond, La.

The names of those on board the helicopter have not been released.

A second helicopter that was part of the same training exercise returned to base safely, The AP reported.
