Fed-up Trey Gowdy describes stonewall over Clinton emails — and how he’ll get them

He’s not interested in bridesmaids’ outfits.

Declaring that he’d “lost confidence” in the State Department, U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy on Monday said he plans to call former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to publicly testify about her use of a private email account and Internet server if she refuses to turn the material over.

“If they’re public, then she’s not entitled to be the sole arbiter of who gets what, when,” Gowdy told “Kelly File” host Megyn Kelly.

Gowdy, the South Carolina Republican who chairs the House Select Committee on Benghazi, said the State Department stonewalled the committee’s investigators for six months as they sought emails related to the terrorist attacks of 2012 that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, including the ambassador.

“We need more resources, we need more time,” Gowdy said, mimicking the State Department excuses. “The State Department had six months to have the conversation you and I just had.”

It was only last week, Gowdy said, that the committee learned Clinton did not use a government email account – and that she had sole control over what should be public records.

“You would think that would have come up in all the conversations we had with the State Department,” Gowdy told host Kelly.

Probably anticipating objections from Clinton and her defenders in Congress and the media, Gowdy made clear his investigation is concentrating only on documents related to the State Department.

“I have no interest in bridesmaids’ dresses or wedding cakes. It’s none of my business and I don’t care,” Gowdy told Kelly.

“Public records are all of our business.”
