Fox News anchor Chris Wallace put former Clinton White House Special Counsel Lanny Davis on the hot seat Sunday over Hillary Clinton’s exclusive use of private email accounts while serving as secretary of state.
Davis insisted throughout the grilling that not only were Clinton’s actions legal, but also there was “nothing wrong” with them, prompting Wallace to ask if he ever got “tired of cleaning up after the Clintons.”
“The State Department’s foreign affairs manual said employees must use secure department-approved computer systems,” Wallace noted on “Fox News Sunday.”
“The agency that regulates the Federal Records Act, that’s a law, said emails must be ‘preserved in the appropriate agency,’” Wallace continued. “The Obama White House said private emails must be preserved and later, 2011, when she was still Secretary of State, that all work should be conducted on government email. And you say Hillary Clinton did nothing wrong?”
Davis side-stepped the issue, stating that others had used private email accounts, repeatedly naming former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican.
He did, however, agree that an inspection of the Clinton emails by a third party would have been a reasonable request.
Wallace didn’t let up.
“If Clinton did nothing wrong, why did she send out a memo in 2011 to all State Department posts with this directive, ‘Avoid conducting official department business from your personal email accounts,’” Wallace asked.
“Why was it so important for every other member of the State Department, but it was a directive that she ignored?”
Davis again mentioned the former Florida governor’s private email account, prompting Wallace to ask a question that has been on a lot of people’s minds for years.
“Do you ever get tired of cleaning up after the Clintons?”
One final observation: If someone had hacked into Bush’s private email account while he served as governor, a state contractor may have had an advantage during a bidding process.
Had someone hacked into Clinton’s private email accounts while she served as secretary of state, Americans could have gotten killed — perhaps even four Americans — perhaps even an ambassador.
