Whether it’s the IRS unfairly targeting conservative groups, or Department of Veterans Affairs facilities falsifying records while veterans died, President Obama seems to learn of most scandals that rock his administration through news reports.
You can now add the political storm swirling around former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s exclusive use of private email accounts to the list — even as the Obama administration tries to distance itself from the controversy, according to the Washington Examiner.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest told the press Friday that it’s possible Obama learned of Email-gate only after “reading the newspaper,” the Examiner reported.
(At this stage, it’s not entirely out of the question that the brazen White House is simply toying with the American people.)
“I don’t have a whole lot new to shed on this,” Earnest said. “I have no idea when the president first learned.”
He said “the president has a lot of things on his plate.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if he had learned about that by reading the newspaper,” he added.
Seriously.
The New York Times broke the news of Clinton’s exclusive use of a private email account Monday, and the story has dominated the news cycle all week, and also reported later in the week that Clinton aides gave “a heads-up to the White House” about the report.
And Politico reported Friday that the White House knew about this email account in August.
But if what Earnest suggested is true, that Obama learned about it reading the newspaper, then we must assume that administration officials do not communicate potentially game-changing events with the man they work for — so much for transparency.
