Greg Gutfeld’s goodbye moment at ‘Red Eye’ had a ‘big’ surprise

Greg Gutfeld said good-bye Friday evening as host of Fox News Channel’s “Red Eye.”

The pocket-sized Gutfeld is leaving to host his own weekend show on the network, which will feature his “whimsical nature and political satire,” Fox News said in a statement. The program will also “focus on his strong libertarian values and social commentary.”

gutfeld-redeyeHe will continue as a co-host of “The Five” and make a weekly appearance on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

“It was nearly a decade ago that Fox News took a chance and gave me – a gorgeous freak – a show called ‘Red Eye,’” Gutfeld told viewers Friday.

“The show first aired eight years ago. It should have been canceled seven years and nine months ago,” the popular television personality added, saying he’d never forget – or understand – why network chief Roger Ailes trusted him.

“I owe him everything,” he said.

And while in an earlier monologue, Gutfeld offered a semi-serious farewell, the conclusion of his final show shows why Red Eye was so popular and has acquired an almost cult-like following.

(Red Eye will continue to air with rotating guest hosts during a transition period.)

Be sure to stay tuned to the very end!
