An attempted car thief in Ireland learned the hard way that crime doesn’t pay – especially when the car fights back.
The perpetrator first used rocks to try to smash the car window, but when that didn’t work, he decided to use a brick, the Irish Independent reported.
Big mistake.
The brick ricocheted off the car and smacked him square in the face.
When the car’s owner, Gerry Brady, and his fiancé found the man near the car, they thought he had been assaulted and tried to help him.
“When I saw him, he was lying there stone cold on the ground, and his face was in ribbons,” Brady told the Independent.
Proving no good deed goes unpunished, the man tried to blackmail Brady into giving him cab money by threatening to tell authorities Brady assaulted him, according to the Independent.
“I said, ‘Not a chance, I’ve to pay for a new window, mate,” Brady told the paper.
Eventually, Brady and his fiancée called the authorities, who arrested the man and got a good laugh when they watched the assailant get a brick to the face on surveillance video, taken from a camera outside a nearby pub.
“You should have heard the [officers] laughing when they saw the video,” Brady told the Independent. “They were in stitches. Credit to them, they were straight out when we called and found the guy within minutes.”
