A war veteran blasted the State Department’s latest Twitter campaign against Islamic State terrorists, accusing the Obama administration of chronically failing to understand how to wage a real war.
“Until you can take a hashtag, load it into a magazine, rack it into an M-4, charge it and put it in the forehead of an ISIS fighter, they can take their hashtags and sit on the sidelines,” Concerned Veterans of America CEO and Fox News contributor Pete Hegseth said Friday.
The State Department’s latest offensive, called “Think Again, Turn Away,” has staff members furiously deleting thousands of Islamic State Twitter accounts, hoping that will stem the tide of new recruits flocking to the terrorists’ fold.

“Until ISIS feels the heat on the ground, this hashtag conflict isn’t gonna do us all that much good,” Hegseth told Fox News anchor Shannon Bream, filling in for Megyn Kelly on “The Kelly File.”
He also assailed the administration’s reported plan to delay retaking Mosul from the insurgents until the fall.
“We’ve got rhetoric getting in front of reality,” he said.
Hegseth wasn’t the only one who saw the folly in the State Department’s initiative. Plenty of Twitter users did too, saying:
@ThinkAgain_DOS OMG fighting terror with tweets. we are doomed.

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf actually suggested killing terrorists wasn’t a great option.
“But we cannot win this war by killing them,” she told MSNBC’s “Hardball” host Chris Matthews, according to the Washington Times. “We cannot kill our way out of this war.”
Apparently, though, we can irritate them into submission on social media.
You can almost see it now: a young son looking up at his father 20 years from now, asking, “What did you do during the Twitter Wars, Daddy?”
