Eric Holder chickens out on interview with Fox; what’s he afraid of?

President Obama’s controversial attorney general is finally on his way out of office, and he’s accepting requests for one last interview from a full gamut of media outlets, with one notable exception — Fox News.

Fox reported that Eric Holder is offering “exit interviews” to ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Politico. A few weeks ago, he was even given the chance to quack like a duck on MSNBC for Melissa Harris-Perry.

But he doesn’t want to answer any questions from the most watched and most powerful cable news network in the country.

“We learned today that Attorney General Eric Holder has conducted interviews with ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and Politico, while excluding FOX News,” network Executive Vice President Michael Clemente said in a statement.

“The Attorney General’s decision does a deep disservice to America’s largest cable news audience and the interests of a free press. Ultimately, however, we’re not surprised that Holder would try to evade a thorough accounting of his record in office, including his decision to investigate our Chief Washington correspondent, James Rosen through an illegal seizure of emails and phone records of Rosen and his parents.”

Clemente didn’t mention other embarrassing scandals, including Operation Fast and Furious, the Justice Department’s monitoring of Associated Press reporters’ phones and Holder’s race-baiting in Ferguson, Mo., after the shooting death of black teen Michael Brown.

“Late today, the DOJ press office said ‘they look forward to accommodating’ FOX News at a future time,” Clemente added. “We’re hopeful but realistic about whether that will actually happen.”

Fox News media guru Howard Kurtz, who hosts “Media Buzz,” let loose on Holder’s decision to hide from Fox News to anchor Shannon Bream, filling in for Megyn Kelly on “The Kelly File.”

He chuckled what Bream suggested Holder may be able to reach a difference audience by appearing on Fox News, then added that public figures display “a sign of confidence” when they’re willing to subject themselves to “tougher questions” and greater scrutiny “from those he perceives to be his harshest critics.”

He closed by asking, “Is the nation’s top law enforcement officer really afraid of Bret Baer?”

Holder should have expected Fox’s request. “Special Report” news anchor Bret Baer has been asking for interviews with the attorney general every month since May.

The test of any lawyer’s mettle is his ability to cross-examine hostile witnesses. Apparently Holder doesn’t like it when he’s on the receiving end of the tough questions.

If he doesn’t want to sit down with Baer, surely Fox News host Megyn Kelly would make herself available.

A “nation of cowards” is how Holder described America in 2009. Well, I can think of at least one.
