Maybe it’s unreasonable to expect secular progressives to understand.
In a comment mocking Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker for his Christian faith, Political Wire publisher Taegan Goddard seemed to be stumped by the very idea that Christians communicate with God through prayer.
Goddard wrote:
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) frequently says he’s waiting for “God’s calling” to run for president, so he was recently asked under public records laws to provide call “a copy/transcript of all communications with God, the Lord, Christ, Jesus or any other form of deity.”
The snarky remark was the latest salvo in the left’s mad rush to eviscerate all things Scott Walker — the price the likely GOP presidential contender can expect for pushing to an early lead in the race.
But things didn’t quite go as planned when Goddard turned to Twitter to espouse his mockery:
Gov. Scott Walker’s office was unable to provide any transcripts of his conversations with God http://t.co/R8dcqhNpqR

Of all the expected criticism that befell Goddard, perhaps the most unexpected came from Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey.
It’s called “prayer,” and I do it often. RT @politicalwire: @lachlan I don’t pretend I can talk with God. But perhaps Scott Walker can.
— Ed Morrissey (@EdMorrissey) February 24, 2015
In a tweet that has since been removed, Goddard responded: “Serious question: Can you divine God’s will from that prayer? Scott Walker says he’s trying to. I’m not sure he can.”
With a Christian disposition, Morrissey then began the saintly task of educating a non-believer, as seen in this series of tweets:
@politicalwire @lachlan Serious answer: Christians do this all the time. It’s called “discernment.” I spent 2 years discerning on diaconate.
— Ed Morrissey (@EdMorrissey) February 24, 2015
@politicalwire @lachlan And Walker’s correct in that you don’t always get an answer, and it’s certainly not in transcript form.
— Ed Morrissey (@EdMorrissey) February 24, 2015
@politicalwire@lachlan I’d be delighted to chat with you at length about this. Probably not suited for Twitter conversation. 😉
— Ed Morrissey (@EdMorrissey) February 24, 2015
As enlightening as the at-length chat may have been for Goddard, the odds are he did not take Morrissey up on his offer.
But, as the Bible says, the planting of seeds will reap a harvest: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” ~ Galatians 6:9
In either case, after a little reflection, Goddard offered an apology:
I actually thought this was more amusing than anything. But some took offense and I’m sorry. None was intended. http://t.co/R8dcqhNpqR
