‘Divorced from reality’: Obama’s WH freezes out Muslim groups that see a link between Islam and terror

Did President Obama intentionally exclude moderate Muslim groups from last week’s White House summit on countering violent extremism?

(A summit that eschewed the terms “radical Islam” and “Islamic terrorism.”)

According to the Washington Examiner, the Obama administration “excluded members of a prominent group of reformist Muslims” from the summit because they believe Islamic extremists running rampant in the Middle East are motivated by Islam.

obama-hand“Muslim reformers say the administration is ignoring them because they disagree with Obama’s refusal to acknowledge the Islamic roots of the extremists’ ideology,” the Examiner reported.

Despite a wave of criticism, the administration stubbornly maintains — in public anyway — that there is no connection between Islam and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The group of 23 prominent Muslim reformers took out a full-page ad in the New York Times last month asking, “What can Muslims do to reclaim their ‘beautiful religion’?”

Toronto Sun columnist Tarek Fatah was one of the 23 signatories.

“Instead of engaging with these progressive Muslims and supporting their call for reform, not only did the White House ignore them, but every media outlet I saw other than Fox News did as well,” he wrote on Feb. 3.

The Examiner also highlighted Muslim journalists Asra Nomani and Hala Arafa, who wrote an essay published Friday by the Daily Beast.

“We have to own the issue of extremist Islamic theology in order to defeat it and remove it from our world,” the two wrote. “We have to name it to tame it.”

“Among Muslims, stuck in face-saving, shame-based cultures, we need to own up to our extremist theology instead of always reverting to a strategy of denial, deflection and demonization.”

With such a realistic thought process, is it any wonder that Obama wants to distance himself from these Muslims?

But then, Charles Krauthammer pointed out Wednesday that the president is “divorced from reality” when it comes to the problems in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, as Washington Examiner reporter Charles Hoskinson noted, Islamic terrorists continue their reign of terror in the Middle East, beheading and burning victims at will.
