Hardliner New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has demanded big reforms for the New York City Police Department – it’s too bad for him, he didn’t have the right person for the job.
After the death of Eric Garner by a NYC police officer last year, de Blasio set his sights on restructuring the New York Police Department by giving them a “softer look.”
His wishes were granted – somewhat – when the newly appointed ‘reform czar’ of the NYPD Michael Julian, started making requests for supplies that sounded like they could be used more efficiently on a steamy movie set.
Final notice came last January for Julian after a box of 10,000 breath mints showed up at police headquarters, reported the New York Post.
The reasoning was so that cops could pop a mint whenever they had the urge to curse.
Probably knowing he could never be taken seriously in that job again, Julian was transferred to another position, just two months after his appointment.
But not before he had made a previous odd request in response to the large protests last year that were sparked by the death of Garner.
Julian reportedly suggested in a meeting that the way to handle large demonstrations would be to arm police officers with baby oil spray bottles.
Just think… after spraying protesters it would be so much easier to separate them after they’ve been slimed. Julian even went so far as to explain that cops would be wearing rubber gloves – giving them a non-slip advantage.
“He would come up with these wacky ideas. We would roll our eyes and move on,” a police source told the Post.
Needless to say, Julian’s time as deputy commissioner of training was short-lived.
One thing’s for certain, Julian has a knack for thinking ‘outside the box’ and hopefully his creative ideas will be better utilized in his new position, who NYPD spokesman Stephen Davis says is “essentially a promotion.”
No word on the whereabouts of the 10,000 mints.
