This profanity-laden motivational poster hangs in Apple design chief’s office

Sir Jonathan Paul “Jony” Ive, Apple’s senior vice president of design, is somewhat quirky, off-the-wall and more than a bit profane — and his office shows it.

Ive with Apple founder Steve Jobs

Ive’s design of Apple products has “set the course not just for Apple but for design more broadly,” according to a 2010 Fortune Magazine piece.

Company founder Steve Jobs knew talent when he saw it, and considered Ive his “spiritual partner at Apple,” according to a CBS interview.

So what inspires and motivates someone to rise to the top in the design world?

According to The New Yorker, Ive has this “motivational” poster hanging in his office, to remind him what it takes to get there and stay there. Unlike most such posters, it’s riddled with “F-Bombs.” In fact, every single sentence includes the adjective, “f**king.”

Irreverent? Of course. Profane? Absolutely.

But maybe that’s what’s required for not just a designer, but also a business to succeed, wading through a sea of red tape and a mountain of regulations while operating in a country with the highest corporate tax rate in the industrial world.
