Much like the response by Jordan’s King Abdullah to his own pilot being burned to death by terrorists, Egypt hit Islamic State-affiliated jihadists in Libya after they published a video depicting a mass beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians.
Meanwhile, President Obama is hosting a a summit on “violent extremism” — not necessarily Islamic terrorism.
The strikes, launched early Monday “to avenge the bloodshed and to seek retribution from the killers,” returned safely back to Egypt after targeting training camps and weapons caches.
“Let those far and near know that Egyptians have a shield that protects them,” a spokesman for the Armed Forces General Command announced on state radio. Fox reported:
The Egyptian government had previously declared a seven-day period of mourning and President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi addressed the nation late Sunday night, saying that his government reserved the right to seek retaliation for the killings.
“These cowardly actions will not undermine our determination” said el-Sissi. “Egypt and the whole world are in a fierce battle with extremist groups carrying extremist ideology and sharing the same goals.” Twitter responded as well:
Wake up in the morning to find that Egypt bombed ISIS in Derna!! Damn that was quick Sisi. Thanks 🙂 #Libya — FezzanLibya (@Fezzan213) February 16, 2015
Also, that was under an international mandate, not unilateral action. First official foreign military action since Libya 77. @sharifkouddous

It was only Sunday that Fox news reporter on the slaughter of the 21 Egyptian Christians. Here’s their newscast of that event:
Meanwhile, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough told CBS “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer that President Obama has scheduled a terrorism summit for later in the week.
That summit, announced shortly after the Paris attacks on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and a kosher supermarket that left a total of 17 dead, is focused on “countering violent extremism” — it doesn’t even mention Islamic terror by name.
It starts Wednesday.
