Author and blogger Pamela Geller, known primarily for her activism against Islamic extremism, will hold an art exhibit and contest meant as a poke in the eye to Muslims.
The Inaugural Muhammad Art Exhibit & Contest will be held May 5 at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, the same venue of January’s “Stand with the Prophet” conference, according to her website, Atlas Shrugs.
That conference, sponsored by the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR, came fast on the heels of the murderous Islamic attack at the Paris office of the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper.
Geller led thousands of demonstrators in a protest outside the conference to decry what she sees as CAIR’s attempts to restrict free speech.
Politically correct restrictions on freedoms of speech and press should have been nipped in the bud a long time ago, she said.
“After the Charlie Hebdo massacre – and after the violent Muhammad [Danish] cartoon riots a few years ago – there should have been Cartoon Exhibits all over the free world, to show the Islamic jihadis (and their stealth allies in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other Muslim groups that are doing all they can to intimidate the West into abandoning the freedom of speech) that we will not kowtow to violent intimidation” Geller said. “But there were no such exhibits. The free world was ready to submit to the savage enslavers.”
That’s why Geller and her American Freedom Defense Initiative are sponsoring the Inaugural Muhammad exhibit, featuring cartoons in the spirit of Charlie Hebdo and offering a $10,000 prize for the best cartoon.
“The cartoon exhibit will feature images of Islam’s prophet, both historic and contemporary, and speeches by leading voices of freedom and internationally renowned free speech advocates.” she said. “Also speaking will be brave artists who are unbowed by violent threats and determined to stand for the freedom of speech.”
Given the nature of the event, security will be a prime consideration.
“We know the risks,” she wrote. “Of course, this event will require massive security. But this exhibit has to be staged. If we don’t show the jihadis that they will not frighten us into silence, the jihad against freedom will only grow more virulent.“
But Geller feels that the rewards will far outweigh any risks.
“We hope that this event will give others the courage to stand up as well, and show the world that they aren’t going to submit to this savagery,” she said. “Otherwise, it is no exaggeration to say that all will be lost.”
Geller has been actively fighting Shariah law and the steady Muslim invasion into American culture for years.
She organized and led thousands of demonstrators in New York City to protest the construction of what came to be known as the “Ground Zero Mosque,” situated within blocks of the former twin towers of the World Trade Center. That project was eventually abandoned.
Geller also shares something in common with famed surgeon and conservative celebrity Dr. Ben Carson — space on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of extremists.
