A mother with a burning desire for revenge got it — legally.
Diena Thompson, the mother of Somer Thompson, a 7-year-old girl from Orange Park, Fla. who was sexually assaulted and brutally murdered in Oct. 2009, got to burn down the house of the killer Jarred Harrell.
Thompson was allowed to set the house aflame for the local firefighter’s training exercise.
“I get to burn their house down,” Thompson told News4Jax Thursday “I am the big bad wolf this time, knocking down your door.”
The house that Harrell lured the 7-year-old into when she was walking home from school was foreclosed on by the bank who promptly transferred ownership to the Somer Thompson Foundation who donated it to the Orange Park Fire Department to use for training.
“It’s really nice to know that I’m not ever going to have to drive in this neighborhood again and see this piece of trash,” Thomspons said.
The day before she tossed a flare into the house of horrors burning it to the ground Thompson was allowed inside to take an ax to the walls.
Harrell pleaded guilty to murder, kidnapping, sexual battery to avoid the death penalty.
He was sentenced to life in prison.
