Cop’s body cam captures fleeing suspect pull a gun and try to shoot; what stopped him?

Body cam footage released by Evansville, Ind., police this week shows just how close a police officer can come to death only seconds after beginning what appeared to be a routine traffic stop.

In this incident from March, a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by Evansville officers fled and led an officer on a foot chase that turned terrifying when the running man drew a gun and tried to fire.

Fortunately, the gun’s safety switch was still engaged, giving the officer enough time to draw his own weapon and force Cornelius Ratliff.

Ratliff was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison for numerous charges stemming from the incident.
